Schutz Martial Arts Association

Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that is focused primarily on kicking techniques.  Influenced by many traditional Korea arts, such as Taekyon and Subak, and Japanese arts like Shotokan Karate, Taekwondo created in the 1950's as the only art to focus on the kicking side.  With it's name literally meaning "The Way of the Hand and Foot," it has grown throughout the world in epic proportions with well over 200 countries being members of the Kukkiwon.  The Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Headquarters and is in charge of setting and maintaining the global standards for Taekwondo.

The Schutz Taekwondo Academy is the only Kukkiwon certified gym in the Alexandria area.  Grandmaster Schutz is certified through the Kukkiwon as an International Instructor and International Examiner ensuring that all the students are provided that best training possible by adhering to the true traditions of martial arts training.

The Schutz Taekwondo Academy has also been awarded the Top Ranked DoJang (Gym) for 2018 by the Kukkiwon Membership System!

Legacy Leaders

This is a class specifically designed for the Junior Black Belts and Black Belts.  Once a student achieves the Black Belt level there are newer things to start learning and new roles they need to fill, such as the Junior Leadership Team and the Senior Leadership Team.  In order to progress on towards the higher Black Belt levels they are required to attend not only their regular classes, but the Legacy Leaders Class as well.  They will learn leadership skills from GM Schutz's 30+ years of teaching, military leadership courses and from other leadership curricula as provided by John Maxwell, Stephen Covey, Jim Rohn and others.  Even though a small percentage of Black Belts actually become instructors, the leadership skills they learn here will benefit them throughout their lives.

Cutting Edge Crew

This class is specifically designed for those who are on the cutting edge of becoming a Black Belt.  This is to prepare them not only for the upcoming test, but what it really means to become a Black Belt.  In this class they will:  Refine their basic skills to make them sharp as a razor, learn advanced Taekwondo techniques and techniques and tools to mentally prepare for events that could be viewed as stressful, such as tests, performances or even job interviews.  All students Purple Trim and up are required to attend this class in order to be eligible for Black Belt.
